Interesting stories from everyday people. What’s not to like?
I listen to the podcast in the mornings when I do my physical therapy routine. I feel like it gets me out of the house mentally. Yup, hate being stuck in the mental house.
Hula hoops for the 21st century (full disclosure, a friend of mine is a cofounder).
It took me awhile to buy a hoop. I first started getting nerve pain in my feet and up my shins about two years ago. I quit my weekly dance class, had to stop going on walks, and in general had to cut out any unnecessary standing/walking. I needed a hula hoop like I needed a hole in the head.
Except I was wrong. Staying off my feet was making me stir crazy. Then, one of their monthly e-mails talked up how great I would feel if I just hooped for five minutes a day. Sold.
They were absolutely right. Some days I only have the foot power to do five minutes, but some days I can do a lot more. It does raise my heart rate and what’s more — it’s really hard to be depressed while using a hula hoop. Yup, scientific fact.
If you’re on a budget and are feeling crafty, you can make your own.
